About the speaker:
Elizabeth Bell, ’90, was born and raised in Moygashel, Northern Ireland, a small village in County Tyrone famous for its Irish linen. She attended protestant girls’ schools during the 1960s, when the Northern Ireland civil rights movement was taking off and rioting and assassinations led to The Troubles, an ethno-nationalist conflict.
She left to attend university in Nottingham, England, where she met her husband, Chris Bell (retired associate dean of engineering). The pair moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, before Chris was invited to spend a year at Oregon State — they stayed for 44 years, raising three children.
After earning a second degree in accounting from Oregon State, she had a 20-year career as a health care administrator at The Corvallis Clinic. Since retiring, Bell raises funds to support doctoral STEM candidates at Oregon universities and spoils her two grandchildren.
