Robert and Meredith Chapman Professorship in Water Supply and Reclamation

February 12, 2026

In 2021, Robert Chapman, ’65, ’67, and Meredith Chapman made arrangements in their estate plans to create an endowed professorship in the College of Engineering. In 2026, the Chapmans accelerated that commitment by making donations to fully fund this endowment. Future Robert and Meredith Chapman Professors in Water Supply and Reclamation will focus on enhancing surface water supply and treatment and wastewater reclamation and reuse.

After earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering, Bob spent his entire 45-year career at CH2M HILL, the employee-owned worldwide engineering company started by his former professor, Fred Merryfield, with three former students. Bob’s career endeavors included technology development, project management and corporate leadership roles as he progressed to serving as senior vice president of the company’s water business group. In retirement, Bob has been active nurturing the CH2M HILL Legacy Association.

Meredith Chapman is a lifelong homemaker and volunteer. Since their marriage in 1964, she has been Bob’s life partner, engaged in and enabling his career and professional endeavors, while nurturing their marriage and family life.  Meredith’s volunteer leadership and fundraising endeavors have focused on helping children in need, family health and education. She’s earned numerous distinctions for her efforts and served for over 35 years with the Assistance League in chapters around the country.

In addition to their professorship, the Chapmans have established a professional development fund at OSU to help student engineers participate in professional development activities and gain insights to career opportunities.
