Kevin Harvey brings 28 years experience in senior leadership for finance
Kevin Harvey, the Oregon State University Foundation’s associate vice president for finance with 28 years of experience in senior leadership for finance at public university foundations, has been named Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the OSU Foundation, beginning Saturday, Sept. 16.
Harvey’s appointment will follow the retirement of the foundation’s current CFO, Steve Schauble, on Friday, Sept. 15.
“In reality, Kevin has been interviewing for the position since his arrival. We recruited him from the Washington State University Foundation expressly because we wanted to deepen our organization’s expertise in this critically important area and, at our board’s urging, to intentionally prepare options for succession. Steve has done an outstanding job at giving Kevin direct responsibilities in each aspect of our financial operations,” said OSU Foundation President and CEO Shawn L. Scoville. “Kevin is decisive, deeply ethical and an excellent communicator. We are fortunate that he and Steve have had so many successful years of working together, which will make for a smooth transition.”
In his role as associate vice president for finance at the OSU Foundation, Harvey has led fiscal and cash management operations as well as the finance team, who oversee the real estate portfolio, financial reporting and transactions related to accepting donations. He also co-chairs the Foundation’s Enterprise Risk Management committee, a portfolio of responsibilities that includes the organization’s Business Continuity Team, which played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As CFO, Harvey will lead the investment and stewardship of the OSU Foundation’s $1.1 billion in assets. At the end of the last fiscal year on June 30, the foundation’s total endowment surpassed $829 million. The foundation has worked with outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO), Agility, since 2016. Harvey also will serve as the staff lead for the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees’ finance, audit and investment committees.
Before his arrival at the OSU Foundation, Harvey served the Washington State University Foundation for 17 years as associate vice president for finance. He is a CPA and previously worked with accounting firm McFarland and Alton, based in Spokane, Washington, where he specialized in not-for-profit accounting. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in accounting from Washington State University. Harvey is an OSU parent.
