In 1987 Glenn and Mildred Harvey made a gift of their 97,000-acre southeastern Oregon ranch to OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences: a property that had been in the Harvey family for 125 years. For more than two decades the property in Paisley served as both a working ranch and a teaching and research laboratory where Oregon State students and faculty studied rangeland and watershed management.
Glenn was recognized locally and nationally for the quality of his cattle herd and his ranch management. He served on OSU’s E.R. Jackman board and the OSU Foundation board, among other leadership roles. Mildred was a librarian and scholarship advisor at Paisley High School. The couple loved OSU Athletics, regularly attending football and men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as gymnastics and wrestling meets.
After Glenn passed away in 2011, followed by Mildred in 2013, the ranch was sold. According to the couple’s wishes, the proceeds were directed to several endowed funds supporting agricultural sciences and athletics, including the Glenn and Mildred Harvey Professorship in Animal and Rangeland Sciences.
